Ground coriander is made from the seeds of the coriander plant, whose leaves are known as cilantro. Coriander has been used by people since approximately 5,000 BC, and is thought to have originated in the Mediterranean and southwestern Europe. It's a common ingredient in Thai curries, as well as Indian, Middle Eastern, and African cuisines. Coriander has a lemony scent, and mixes well with cumin.
